Are you an insomniac?

The question that concerns many people who are unable to sleep is whether or not they have insomnia and if it something they should see their doctor about.

The symptoms of insomnia can vary.
They include.
  • Difficulty in falling asleep

    Sleeping lightly and waking up frequently

    Waking up early in the morning and being unable to get back to sleep

    Unrefreshing sleep


There are also different types of insomnia:

Transient/short-term/acute insomnia
This refers to sleep problems lasting between one night and a few weeks and it has a variety of causes from short term stress to enviromental factors. If transient insomnia happens from time to time it is know as intermittent.

Chronic insomnia
Chronic insomnia refers to having sleep problems at least three nights per week for one month or more. Chronic insomnia is more complex. It could have an underlying physical pr psychologica; cause. It might be the result of a sleep sisorder Chronic stress or depression.If there is no underlying cause it is known as primary insomnia.

If you feel you are not getting enough sleep and it is having an effect on your daytime activites.Then you may have insomnia If self help measures aren't working your mood and functioning are suffering from lack of sleep and these symptoms are frequent or last longer than a month then seek professional medical advice.

Fortunately most of us can resolve our sleepless night through behavioural changes. SOme of the changes you need to make may seem like wishful thinking How on earth can you fin more exercise into your chaotice schedule? How can you reduce stress when you have children/boss.parents.friends all relying on you?

But much of what you can do involves simple small changes that will make a big difference to your life and how well you sleep and when you actually getting enough quailty sleep then it makes the rest of your life seem so much easier.
