Singer Whitney Houston, who reigned as one of the world's top pop stars in the 1980s and '90s but suffered from recurring bouts with drugs and alcohol, was found dead in a Beverly Hills hotel room Saturday.

Law enforcement sources told The Times that paramedics arrived at the Beverly Hilton hotel, where Houston was staying, and found her dead. Her cause of death was unknown, said the sources, who asked to remain anonymous because the investigation is ongoing.

Houston, 48, was in the Los Angeles area for a musical tribute for music executive Clive Davis and had performed earlier this week.

lass used to be my idol when i was little but to see anyone that takes a gift of life as good as hers and throws it away just like that pfft makes be bloody angry, but thats drugs for ya they take a person no matter what theyre lifes like and rip it apart.i couldnt have wasted my life as easily as that.

its her family i feel sorry for theyre the ones that have had to live with her the way she was and now theyre the ones that have to live with the pain of loosing her.

Tragic waste of a life. Such a talented singer in the 80s and 90s then she hit the downward spiral of drink/drugs. What a pity...
