| Meditation and Relaxation techniques
To be able to meditate you need to make the conscious decision to sit quietly and relax your body and mind. The length of your meditation is completely up to you and what you can manage to fit in to your life style, the only thing i will recommend is that you get at least 5 minutes a day of meditation in the begining. If you can do a longer period then by all means do. Meditation is often associated with deep breathing exercises which can help you with daily stress and worries, if you can get into a routine and meditate on a constant daily basis you will find it your daily life starts to improve. But it does take time and like all things good it takes hard work and persistence too. I personally think it is worth doing and not giving up is the best thing you can do.
Basic tips to help you get started
When you are ready to start meditating try to find a quiet place, it is hard to focus your mind inward when there are distractions around you. you need to make sure you will not be disturbed or interrupted, a break in meditation can cause emotional stress because you get frustrated with the interruptions.
If you struggle to find an inner peace, try some soft lighting ie, candles, low watt light bulb etc, and some soft music.
Breath deep. inhale to the count of 10 and out to the count of 10 at least 3 times before you start meditating. I find this also helps to relax which you need to be to meditate successfully. whilst breathing out picture all your tension leaving your body feel your muscles relax. Do this breathing exercise as long as you need to until you fell relaxed enough to move on the the next step.
You now need to 'ground and center' yourself as follows, TO GROUND- take 3 deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth. Close your eyes and imagine you are a tree and your feet are the roots (you can do this sat down or laid, you just need to imagine which ever part of you is touching a surface are the 'roots') imagine your 'roots' growing deep into the earth and feel the stable secure energy of the planet, feel 'rooted' to the spot.
When you have completed the Grounding its time for you to Center yourself. TO CENTER- imagine your energy merging with the energy of the universe allow the sounds and smells around you to pass through you as though you are floating in a magickal pool. let your concentration center on your solar plexus area now imagine a brightly burning sun there (i prefer to imagine a ball of bright light) and then slowly allow yourself to become 'one' with the universe
then empty your mind, just clear it, try to not think, if it helps concentrate on your breathing. and keep the breaths deep and relaxing.
And hey presto you are meditating. I use this technique all the time and i find it works, it does take some practice though | |
