1) Be careful what you download
Don't click on pop-ups or adverts that appear within your web browser, or on adverts on the Home Page of free software sites. When your installing software, READ tick boxes carefully and untick the ones that encourage you ot change default settings or install extra software and features.

Often a paid version of the same software appears on the same web page, so make sure your downloading the correct version.
